To achieve anything worthwhile in life there is usually a good deal of preparation that has to be made. We’ve been discussing how to prepare to resist evil by reviewing the pieces of the armor of God found in Ephesians 6. Here’s our foundation verse:

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm” (Ephesians 6:10-13, (NLT).

In our previous video, we’ve talked about the Belt of Truth, The Breastplate of Righteousness, having our feet fitted with the preparation of peace and the shield of faith. Let’s continue with next piece of armor.

The Helmet of Salvation – This piece of armor covers our head; our minds. The Hebrew word for salvation means wholeness; nothing missing and nothing broken. What we think about is often revealed in our actions. It is why Paul encourages us not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2) Placing the helmet of salvation on our head, guards our minds and leads us away from temptation that ultimately delivers us from evil. (Matthew 6:13).

We cannot forget this next piece of armor, the

Sword of the Spirit – The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God spoken in the power and under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Luke 6:45 (NLT) “what you say will flow from what is in your heart.” We, as Christians, must make daily, healthy, deposits of the Word of God in our hearts. So at the time of evil, what is spoken are words that come from God. If we don’t place His word inside of us on a consistent basis, we will have nothing to draw from in order to fight the strategies of the evil one with a weapon designed to defeat him, the Word of God!

And finally, the weapon of prayer! – The Message Translation says it best; “In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” Ephesians 6:18 (MSG). Make no mistake, we are in a battle and we are at war with an enemy who is relentless in his dealings. But prayer, unceasing communication with our awesome, powerful and holy God is essential to our victory. Prayer invites our Father into the battle with us. It exceeds our human constraints and involves the One who can and does defeat the strategies of the evil one in our lives and in the lives of those we love.

God gave us this promise when we prepare to resist evil. Ephesians 6:13 (NLT), “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

It is my prayer that this series on preparation to resist evil not only blessed you but supported your preparation to fighting the strategies of the evil one. Aren’t you glad that the Armor of God is so far superior to any human armor and that they work every time to help us defeat the devil. We are not alone and we don’t stand unprepared to fight when we take the time to put on ALL the armor of God.
